The Secret To A Fine Looking Finish Is Surface Preparation
To create that fine finish, it is necessary to prepare the surface properly. You should divide surface preparation into three different stages for the most efficiency. Each stage will use different tools and methods of preparation. In the first and second stages, you will use abrasive tools like planes, scrapers and sandpaper. In the third stage, you will be using fillers and wood putty. No matter what your woodworking project may be, whether it is a piece of furniture or a simple jewelry box, to create a truly beautiful piece you must put on a proper finish. This doesn’t mean you need to spend a large amount of time preparing it, however.

Welcome to Ed’s WoodWorking !
My name is Ed Black and I love working with wood. I was raised the son of a carpenter, but like a lot of sons I did not follow in my dad’s foot steps. I worked as an Ironworker for thirty one years, but always remembered making different projects with my dad. He taught me about the different types of woods and the right wood to use for whatever project I might want to make. I learned about the tools used to do the job right. How to care for my tools and keep them in tip top shape. He taught me that if you take care of your tools, they will take care of you.
Having the right tool to do the job is very important, but there are many different ways to do the same thing. Take dado’s for instance. This task can be done by using a table saw with dado blade setup or a radial arm saw with a dado setup, it can be done with a router. If you really want to do it the old fashion way you can do it with hand saw, hammer and chisel. So choose the way you want, with the tools you have on hand.
This is just beginning of what I hope will be a great place to get information on different woodworking tips and tricks.
